MICHigan e-Library series

The Michigan eLibrary has a vast array of resources, and their librarians needed training on its use. First Fight of Detroit worked with the library to produce a series of educational videos. The series follows a cast of characters whose own library problems illustrate the benefits of MeL. This series was first informative, but also needed to maintain engagement and warmly invite users into the narrative.

First Fight brought me on to take their illustrations and animatics to finished work.

EFFICIENCY + VALUE

Starting the project; quantity was a big factor in my technical and design choices. I ended up working on 6 different videos with 6 characters needing multiple rigs. I needed to isolate where to focus the most energy for rigs and components to keep animation efficient, and still deliver quality animation. A lot of preproduction helped find loose-ends in the scene assets, and also determine which character rigs needed the most attention.

Once the first two videos were completed, I had a whole set of characters. We’d also established consistent motion use. It was great to execute on the rest of the videos with a well-established direction.

HAPPY CLIENT, PROUD FINISH

I’m grateful to have worked this project. The client loved the end result, and we delivered an engaging series of informational videos. I developed some new character rigging / animation tricks, and the timeline stayed on track. Check out some of my favorite shots below!
